‘You knew our mother?’ one of the ladies that passed by Genny said to Genny.
‘Know her? I convinced her to accept your father as her mate because he was getting nowhere with her. I helped her build that home; your mother was my best friend. And I am so sorry I could not make it in time to save you,’ Genny said to the woman as tears ran down her eyes. She walked to the eldest and took her hands in hers.
‘When your mother reached out to me asking for a haven I asked her to go to the nearest water body and call my name, that the door would be open to her. She said she would pack you all up and be there in the morning. She thought she had time, but she didn’t. She called out to me with her dying breath, but the house would not let me go to her. It was almost five years later that it let me out after I had broken its bond with me. I did not realize that so much time had gone.
