I stood beside Weston in the command room as the castle trembled—not from an explosion, but from a howl drenched in agony. My blood turned to ice.
“He’s here.”
Weston snapped his head toward me. For once, he didn’t brush it off—he felt it too. A hush fell over every Alpha as they pivoted to face the eastern border. The air grew heavy, darker, as if something ancient had crept into our lands and even the earth was warning us.
Roland’s jaw tightened. “Report.”
A warrior’s voice crackled through the mind link, unsteady. “Alpha… the eastern border’s been breached.”
Weston shot to his feet. “How many?”
The warrior hesitated. “That’s the problem… they’re not wolves.”
My stomach clenched. “Then what are they?”
“Humans.” His voice shook.
