"Remain seated," I commanded when Matthew made a move to stand up willingly, allowing Winifred to take her seat. The thought of him standing up for Winifred, even if it wasn't next to me, was inconceivable.
Matthew glanced at me, his hazel eyes locked onto mine, unyielding. For the past minutes that he refused the drink I offered to him, I hadn't spare him a look as I had feigned anger but I wouldn't ignore him giving up his seat for Winifred.
"Find another place to sit," I instructed Winifred, who remained in her petulant frown, while Matthew settled on his seat, he hardly made any sound even with his breath.
I shifted my gaze away from him, taking another sip from my drink. Darren and Mark muttered to each other, their conversation almost audible had I been paying closer attention. But I wasn't.
"Matthew, my legs are getting tired," Winifred whined, but I remained silent. I had already made my stance clear.
