Maybe it was an odd arrangement, but it actually ended up working for Kat and me. She needed the stability of her boyfriend to fill a hole in her life. I felt like I understood it. She wanted a normal life and didn't want to allow her dark side to consume everything in her. I filled her need to feed the dark side, which left me on standby. Without a pressure relief valve for her darker desires, she would explode. So I remained on the side, like a pilot light, ready to ignite it when opportunity called.
