Chapter 394
Logan’s POV
It was faint at first, barely audible over the hum of the air conditioning. But as I listened, it became clearer…a soft, playful giggle.
My heart skipped a beat.
It sounded like Damien.
I sat upright in my chair, straining to hear. The laughter came again, light and joyful, the kind of laugh only a child could produce.
But how?
I had just put Damien to bed. He had been scared, clutching his blanket like it was his lifeline. I had stayed with him until he fell asleep.
Isn’t that the same boy who was terrified minutes ago?
The laugh echoed again, this time a little louder, and it sent a shiver down my spine.
“Damien?” I called out, my voice breaking the silence of the study.
No response.
The sound of the laughter was so out of place, so wrong in the context of the night, that it sent a chill through me.
I pushed my chair back and stood, my movements sharp and deliberate. M
