Maxine’s POV

He said nothing. Instead, he let out a breath and closed his eyes. Like me, he was listening to the wind passing by and feeling the sun on his face.

"Well?" I decided to push for an answer.

“This place,” Ronan began, opening his eyes to look around, “it’s one of the few things I’ve managed to keep intact amidst all the chaos in my life. I like to think that it’s a reminder that there’s still beauty in the world. Even if the beauty is buried under layers of darkness.”

I looked at him. Was he answering my question or he was just going off? I was trying to read the meaning behind his words. His face was calm and I couldn't read anything off of that. I couldn't understand this man.
