We scrambled into our clothes in record time—jeans, a shirt, shoes—no time for the civilized luxury of a shower. I claimed a stray hair tie from the bathroom counter, threw my hair into a messy bun, and shoved my feet into my sneakers. Damien mirrored the speed run, hair still damp, eyes shining with that wolfish grin of his. I nearly tripped over my own feet rushing out the door, but he caught my elbow with a soft laugh. Best start to any day.
By the time we breezed into work together, William looked like he’d won the lottery. His jaw practically hit the floor when he saw us strolling in arm in arm. “Well, look who finally decided to show up together,” he crowed, swapping his clipboard for a thumb-up high-five.
