Chapter 29
I am not a fan of the pitch dark, so I move faster with a sense of unease, making loud stepping noises on the polished wooden floor. They echo around me and make me feel oddly unalone. It’s almost like being blind, and I'm ultra-sensitive as my other senses try to counteract the loss of one. I bump into something at knee level that makes me gasp and yelp before bending to rub my shin, wondering what they have left lying in the middle of the floor when my skin goosebumps all over from a sudden rear presence.
A sickening lurch in my stomach tells me someone has walked up close behind me, and I shoot upright in instant frantic heart palpitations, and all my hair stands on end. My muscles go rigid, and I catch my breath, afraid to move.
