I haven’t been back to Moonrise in over two weeks. It wasn’t my idea to stay away this long, even though, almost a year ago now, Maeve badgered me into splitting my time between Eastonia and Crescent Falls. I didn’t realize back then how often I’d actually find myself gravitating back to Moonrise, to Eastonia in general. She was right, which I’ll never admit to her face, but coming back after two long weeks away, being fussed over by my mom, walking on eggshells with my dad over my idiocy… his words, not mine… it’s good to be home.

I click the cursor on my laptop, staring at the untouched funds in a massive bank account I set up… seven years ago, give or take a few months. The amount has changed. Grown with interest. Rarely a single dollar spent.

I run my hand over my face and check the page again, clicking through the account details, trying to paint a picture of what, if anything, Marianna has spent this money on… but there’s nothing recent
