He sighed, not knowing where to start. He was not used to this. “Please, eat, Danika. Do what I say; do not ask questions. Not for now. Just eat,” he said.
The soft but firm command snapped her out of her shocked daze and she nodded. With a hand, she pushed the food closer and began ravishing it as ravenously as she had before.
“Easy,” his deep voice followed. She nodded again and slowed down—a bit.
He stood beside her, just watching her eat. Guilt weighed heavily on his heart. His Danika has never eaten less than a cultured, sophisticated princess will eat. But here she is now, practically attacking food. All because he made a rash decision that subjected her to no food and water for three days.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Danika noticed the new look in the king’s eyes. She had no idea what that look was, but it was not violence. No—it was not a bad look at all.
Her skin tingled, reminding her of her state of undress.
