Ramon POV
“Lake took Ollie upstairs,” Rhodes said, appearing on the porch. “He wanted to check him over, to make sure he wasn’t injured from his adventure this morning. And I think—I think Lake needed a minute. To process everything.”
“He’s furious with me,” I said. It wasn’t a question.
“He’s a lot of things,” Rhodes said carefully. “Furious is one of them. But Ramon—he’s also relieved you came back. He told Ollie this morning that they were going to come see you. That space wasn’t working. So in a way, Ollie just accelerated what was already going to happen.”
“Ollie could have been killed,” I said, the reality of it hitting me fresh. “Rhodes, he walked through the city alone at dawn. He took an Uber by himself. He’s five years old. Anything could have happened to him.”
“But it didn’t,” Rhodes said. “Ollie was smart and careful and lucky. And now he’s safe. That’s what matters.”
