Chapter 33
Ramon POV
“The museum district is particularly beautiful this time of year,” I offered casually. “The gardens are in full bloom.”
“That sounds lovely,” Lake replied, but his gaze was fixed on his phone screen, clearly waiting for another message that would dictate his actual plans.
When we reached my building, Marcus smoothly pulled up to the executive entrance. The timing felt significant—Lake would have privacy to make calls or receive instructions while I was inside, and Marcus would be able to begin his surveillance without obvious transition.
“This shouldn’t take more than an hour,” I said, gathering my briefcase and preparing to exit the car.
“Take your time,” Lake said, his relief at having space to maneuver barely concealed. “I might do some
scouting while you’re busy.”
Before I could change my mind about leaving him alone, I reached for Lake and pulled him close.
What started as a simple goodbye kiss quickly intensified
