“You didn’t trap me with Sophia,” I said, my voice rising despite my efforts to stay calm.
“Troy, I showed up at that clinic because I wanted to. Because the thought of you going through an abortion alone, scared and hurting—it was unbearable. Not because I felt obligated, but because even then, after one night, I knew you were special. I knew I wanted to know you, to be part of your life, to see where things could go.”
“But if I hadn’t been pregnant—”
“If you hadn’t been pregnant, maybe we would have taken longer to figure things out,” I conceded. “Maybe we would have dated like normal people, taken time to get to know each other without the pressure of impending parenthood.
