Chapter 90
Rhodes POV
I stood outside our bedroom door for a full minute before I could make myself turn the handle. My hand was shaking—actually shaking—and I had to take several deep breaths to steady myself. On the other side of that door was my mate, the person I loved more than anything in this world, and I had no idea how to fix what was broken between us.
The room was dark when I entered, lit only by the soft glow of the bedside lamp Troy must have left on. He was curled up in the center of our bed, facing away from the door, his body drawn into a tight ball that made him look smaller than he was. For a moment I thought he was still asleep, but then I saw the way his shoulders tensed at the sound of the door closing.
He was awake. And he was avoiding looking at me.
“Troy,” I said softly, approaching the bed slowly like he was a wild animal that might bolt. “Can we talk?”
“There’s nothing to talk about,” he said, his voice muffled against the pillow.
