Chapter 57. Not Able to Take a Joke

Astrid's change of demeanor and mood was sudden, but it was something I'd expected given her past with her family. It had bugged me since Lana told us about the vision, giving me a tough time. I didn't have any reason to care after all; people died every day whether or not others knew it would happen beforehand or not.

However, something worried me. Something about this particular vision begged for attention. Lana was a vampire blessed with the gift of a seer, which meant that her visions were much stronger and more interrelated to those through which she saw them.

When she saw that vision, she'd been attending to Astrid's wound, and I could assume that there was something about Astrid or her connection to it all that triggered that vision. Whether or not Astrid liked to admit it, she was connected to this. Something about Vesper's death would affect her somehow, and I wanted to avoid that.

I watched her as she stood far away, tapping
