Chapter 134
HAZEL
What was going on?
I hurried over and grabbed Mathilda’s shoulder when I saw her head for the door.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I asked and spun her around. I backed away to block her path. It wasn’t safe out there, especially for a thirteen-year-old who didn’t even have a wolf yet.
“I want to fight,” she said defiantly.
My eyes rounded and my jaw dropped. I’d always been protective of her but this wasn’t that—it was a mix between protectiveness and anger and I dug my nails into my palms.
“You’re not fighting. The basement has been prepared for you and Kiera, that is where you will stay until this is over,” I was firm in my tone. We had everything set up for them, toys and mountains of books along with food and drinks, everything they could need for a few days depending on how long this went on for. I wanted her down there right away, I didn’t want to wait until the enemy stood on our doorstep and risk her being in the crossfire.
