Chapter 79
My mother sat in the chair in front of the director’s desk, but I stood, raising my chin to face him. I would never admit that those people could give me orders.
“I don’t know how you can believe in an idiot’s dream. Have you studied so much, and haven’t learned anything until now?”
The director of the institute seemed surprised by my answer.
“I know you’ve been going through strong emotions these last few days. I can’t blame you for thinking we’re doing something wrong. Since the war, we’ve had to use all our weapons against those creatures. Your father has always been very useful on the other side of the border, almost like a double agent. He lived on enemy soil and passed on important information so that we knew what we were facing. Now he tells us that you have willingly accepted to help in our search for a cure.” I giggled.
“You’re not going to make me give birth to a guinea pig.”
The director sighed.
“So the pregnancy is really real.”
