Alarmed by the noise, her parents rushed in. Her father, a high-ranking official in the pack and a man known for his calm demeanor, reached her first.
“What is the meaning of this?” he asked, grabbing her wrist to stop her from throwing another glass.
Her mother followed, wide-eyed. “What’s going on? Why are you like this?”
She spun toward them, panting. “He picked her!” she yelled. “That Rina girl! Theo… he picked her! He said she’s his mate!”
Her parents exchanged a glance, and her father gently but firmly guided her to sit down.
“Theo found his mate?” he asked, and when she gave a sharp nod, he sighed. “Then you must let him go. The moon goddess does not make mistakes.”
“No!” she snapped, jerking away from him. “Why her? Why someone like her? I was with Theo for years! I stood by him before he ever rose to Gamma! And now—he picks that healer’s apprentice over me?”
