“I saw her wither from a strong lively woman to a frail sad housewife. She loved my father so much.”

“Their marriage was an arranged one. The marriage helped fix the financial issues my father’s family faced and my grandfather got what he wanted in return. Everybody won but my mother. It was a marriage that should not happen in the first place.” Charles’s voice quivers.

“You know what is the saddest part?” Charles asks, letting out a dry laugh.

“My mother fell in love with my father at first sight. She stepped into the marriage willingly despite it being arranged. She thought he would love her back and cherish her after he realized how a wonderful person she was.”

What he said made my heart weep too. Turning to Charles, I looked at him with support and gentleness.

“It is all right, at least she’s in a good place,” I said encouraging him to speak out the pains that have been buried deep in him for so long.
