Chapter 48. She Knows About Our Facade
Roman’s POV
“Nana, Sofie is here to see you,” I announced as I walked into Nana’s hospital room with Sofie. I willed away the despondence that threatened to choke my throat as Nana tried, but unfortunately failed, to sit up by herself. I went over to help her up, propping two pillows behind her back to make her comfortable.
“Thank you, mio figlio.” She smiled weakly as she rubbed my cheeks. I sighed heavily as I watched her frail hands beckon Sofie over for a hug; she had become very emaciated. I badly wanted to get mad at her for conspiring with her butler and servants to withhold the fact that she’d been collapsing frequently from me. She had claimed she didn’t want to make me worry over something intangible.
