Chapter 147

Emmeline continued her relentless torment. She stuck out her tongue and languidly licked the pad of her fingertip, making sure Zavian could see every motion out of the corner of his eye.

His brow furrowed and his nostrils flared, but he didn’t look her way nor did he contribute to the ongoing discussion. He simply leaned back on his chair with one leg crossed elegantly over the other, looking dangerously at the daring woman.

At long last, the judges turned back to face the courtroom.

Zavian shuffled some papers needlessly, finally peeling his burning gaze away from Emmeline’s heated gaze.

He cleared his throat before proceeding to deliver his judgment. “This court, having reviewed all of the evidence presented over the course of this trial, finds the defendant guilty of all charges. The defendant’s reckless endangerment, and most gravely - multiple counts of first-degree murder.” He paused, his eyes flicking to Emmeline’s face as she leaned forward eagerly.
