Zavian sighed, reaching up to cup her face and tilted her chin up to meet the hard angles of his expression that had finally relaxed into something warmer, almost tender.
“Look at you,” Emmeline said softly, reaching up to gently brush the dusting of snow from his tousled hair. Her fingers lingered perhaps a bit too long, stroking through the thick strands.
Zavian smirked faintly at her words. He leaned almost imperceptibly into her touch as his eyes followed the path of her hand. “A little snow won’t kill us,” he murmured.
The anger seemed to melt from his expression entirely in that moment, leaving behind only a look of heated longing that had Emmeline’s breath catching in her throat.
“You didn’t even wear your cap,” Zavian scolded gruffly, reaching up to dust the snow from her hair. “You’ll catch a cold if the snow melts on your head.”
