“You’re not giving Zavian enough credit,” Minnie observed, her initial anger softening into something more thoughtful. “He’s giving up his established life to go with you. Your relationship breaks all kinds of social rules, but he’s still committed to you despite everything.”
Emmeline turned to her friend and her face lit up by a smile that transformed her features. “Following the rules rarely makes you happy,” she reflected. “Breaking them often does. Maybe that’s why what we have feels so special.”
Minnie laughed. “Maybe that old saying about love turning people into poets is true after all,” she teased.
