Chapter 41. Mark’s Intention

Amy skipped while entering into her mom’s room. Vera was sitting in front of her vanity mirror, fixing her hair and makeup. The soft glow of the morning sun poured into the room, catching on Vera’s jewelry and the shimmering edges of her sleek dress.

Amy stopped skipping and walked closer, pouting. “Mom, we’re going to be late for the airport.”

“Come on now, Amy,” Vera said without looking at her daughter. “I need to finish my makeup. Just one more touch.”

She gently dabbed a powder brush across her cheeks, gave herself one final look, then stood up to pick up her designer handbag.

Before she could leave, a knock came at the door. Vera said, “Come in.”

Ma Claudia entered first, followed by five other maids. They moved toward the luggage lined near the wall. The maids greeted Vera respectfully.

Vera gave a quick nod in response and motioned to them. “Take them to the car.”

She took Amy’s hand and walked out of the room without another word, l
