Adele nodded, so Wayne spoke again. “don’t you have anything else to ask? I still have work to do and Hugo and I need to continue our meeting.”

“You haven’t answered my question about who is the woman he was with earlier.”

Wayne shrugged and grinned. “Aren’t you the fiance? Shouldn’t you be the one who knows?”

Adele’s cheeks and ears turned red because she felt embarrassed. She also felt in Wayne’s smile as if he knew about her agreement with Hugo. “Nevermind.”

She was about to pass Wayne when he pulled her back. “There’s no way there.” He pointed the other way, “Here’s the way.” He put the money in her palm. “Your taxi fare home.” Laughing, the man ran after he teased Adele.

She followed the road where the man had run earlier and saw the taxis lined up there. While she was riding in the taxi, she thought about going home to her Aunt Julia’s home first, but she also remembered Soleil. It would only be awkward for them to meet by cha
