"Very much so. He seems different. Happier, perhaps. More settled." Philippe sipped his wine thoughtfully. "It's good to see. He's been drifting for years, building an empire but not really living. You've changed that."

His words surprised me. "I don't know about that."

"I do. I've known Alexander since he was a boy. Watched him grow into the formidable businessman he is today. But there was always something missing. A lightness, perhaps. I see it in him now when he looks at you."

Before I could respond, Alexander appeared at my side.

"Philippe, I see you've met my wife."

"Indeed. A lovely woman, Alexander. You're a fortunate man."

"I know," Alexander said, his voice carrying a weight I felt rather than heard.
