“Nick once convinced Ethan that our neighbor’s cat could talk,” I said, laughing at the memory. “Ethan spent weeks trying to get that poor cat to say something.”
“Did he eventually figure it out?”
“Only after Nick recorded himself making cat noises and played it when Ethan wasn’t looking.” I smiled at the memory. “Ethan chased him around the block with a water gun.”
Alexander’s smile was relaxed, a stark contrast to his usual controlled expression at the office. “You clearly love your family.”
“I do,” I admitted. “They drive me crazy, but they’re everything to me.”
“That’s why you agreed to this arrangement,” he said quietly. “For them.”
