Chapter 1. Where Am I?

Naya’s POV

“Where am I?” I asked the moment I got up from my deep slumber, not knowing who stood beside me and why I was almost half-naked in front of a man I knew nothing about.

“Why don’t I have my clothes on? And what is my name?” I asked as if I would receive an answer from someone, and to my greatest surprise, I got one. It was from a baritone voice. I wasn’t expecting it because the place where I lay seemed deserted for the most part.

“Oh, you’re finally awake. Here’s some warm soup. Take it; it would help with your wounds.” This macho, beautiful voice gave my insides some butterflies I would swear I had never had before.

“Wounds? What wounds are you talking about?” I took my hand up to my forehead, and that is when I realized a stabbing pain.

“Sheesh, what the hell happened to me?” I asked him and turned defensive almost immediately.

“Did you do this to me?” I asked and managed to stand up with the stick lying by my side, and I sward it before him. And he dodged after it came his way. I couldn’t believe this, and my head hurt so much that I couldn’t remember a thing, and this man standing before me, although he looked like he could be ruthless, kept telling me he didn’t hurt me at all.

I lay my head down so that I could be apt to get everything under control. I was so pained and didn’t know how I had gotten the wounds on my body, and there was nothing around here to make me figure this place to be familiar.

The compassion was in his eyes, and something came to mind. I hadn’t asked him what his name was.

“I didn’t get to ask you one question!” I told him, and he became attentive to what I wanted to ask.

“What is your name?” I asked him, and he looked at me as though I had somehow grown a second head.

The moment I asked, this asshole went into full-blown quiet mode, and he looked like he had been thinking of something important with the way he creased his forehead.

But then he answered, and honestly, no matter how I tried to make out the entire story he had just told me, I couldn’t understand what and where the so-called Beowulf Pack was. But now it made sense why he had healed super-fast; he was not human.

“We sure are getting somewhere, Alpha Karl. I just pray I would be able to remember my name and who I am pretty soon,” I said, finally accepting to be civil since my tantrums had only landed me focused and having this man pour a weird substance on my feet, which caused me to scream and go back to defensive mood and immediately the wound closed up leaving just a trail of dry blood, leaving me flabbergasted and open mouth.

Karl’s POV

I had left my pack intending to have some air, but at the end of the day, I didn’t know how and why I felt like I had been brutally beaten.

I could tell I knew all the routes in the woods, but this area wasn’t one of those places I knew, but I was the Alpha of Beowulf Pack and could maneuver my way through this forest.

But this beautiful lady by my side looked lost, and she mentioned that she didn’t know where she was and couldn’t remember her name, making it even more painful than I could think.

I couldn’t imagine not having my memory; I would die if that happened.

But I was brought out of my reverie when she became mouthy and annoying.

I hated women who nag a lot, but for some reason, I felt this woman was going to be the death of me.

And I, the ruthless alpha of my pack, sure had a weak spot.

I didn’t know I had that, not until I met this woman who lay looking deep into an area she couldn’t remember.

My pack and elders were all waiting for me to come to get married to a woman I knew nothing about, and I didn’t feel the need to do that, especially after I couldn’t find myself being tied down to a woman I had never met.

“Are you always this flippant, or do you just enjoy making me angry?” I asked when she said something else. It seemed I had been in my head a little too long because she seemed furious and insulted me.

“Well, for the record, I wish to tell you that you have the award of the most obnoxious woman I have ever met, and since you want to know my name, I am Karl Baron, the Alpha of the Beowulf pack - an extremely renowned pack in the entire community. Does that ring a bell?” I asked.

“We will find who you are, don’t worry, that shouldn’t take long,” I said, and somehow I felt my words console her, and I hoped she would be calm as soon as possible.

I had to find a way out of where we were, but I couldn’t leave her here. She looked vulnerable, and what if the wild wolves and enemies attacked her? They would hurt her, and even if she had a family, no one would find her, so I had to ensure I protected her. It was like I had an obligation to do so.

Hence our journey out of this weird place started.
