Lucien’s words are like daggers stabbing into Mrs. Avery’s heart. It makes her feel a sense of inferiority she hasn’t felt in a long time.
She has always been the superior one but just as Lucien spoke, it felt like all the superiority she held on to suddenly moved into him leaving her empty like a mere leaf.
Although his words are calm, the coldness in them makes a chill wash down her right from her head to her toes.
She wants to doubt that he will have the gut to do what he just said but as she sees his fierce eyes and how he keeps twitching his fingers as if he is just waiting for her to make any statement, she can’t help but gulp and erase every feeling of doubt in her mind.
She is filled with so many statements to make but can only grit her teeth not daring to let any word come out of her mouth.
Her action is just like that of an angry deaf and dumb making gestures but doesn’t know how to say the words out loud.
