Chapter 63. Extortion

Anna woke up early the next morning to loud, insistent knocks on the door. When she opened the door, one of the men was ready to knock again and when he saw Anna he was startled and stopped himself. Anna. She couldn't resist and smiled amusedly.

  “Did something happen?”

  “The phone will ring in five minutes.” He said turning red and left.

  Anna washed her face and ran to the office. She entered just as the phone started ringing.

  “Adam?”

  The breathing on the other end sounded like relief.

  “Anna... You mustn't leave the house until I get back.”

  “Why? I need to... Shop for lunch.” She said, thinking of the pharmacist.

  “No. Send Sarah or Kate...”

  “I sent them away.” Anna said and became anxious.
