Chapter 69. Lies

Anna approached the bed, after locking the door from the inside, and sat down next to Adam, took his hand and kissed it lovingly, while he watched her attentively. She thought she saw a glint of fear in his eye, and it bothered her. She wanted to talk to him about the baby, but maybe this wasn't a good time.

   “Why didn't you come home to recover here?” Anna asked after a while.

  “I needed some time away from everything and everyone.”

  “Why did you bring Kate and Sarah back? You... It undermines my authority within my own home. I had strong reasons for sending them away...”

  “And I have strong reasons for keeping them here.”

   “She's really going to stay here, right?” Anna asked. She was completely indifferent to Sarah's presence at that moment.

   “Yes... She asked me, and I didn't want to deny it. This is the time to keep her close. I need to know what she's up to. I've already taken steps.
