Chapter 63

The next morning, Carmela woke to the shrill ringing of her phone. 

She scrambled to pick it up, her heart racing. When she saw that it was a call from Sarah, she felt a pit of dread form in her stomach.

"Hello?" she said, her voice trembling.

"Carmela," Sarah said, her voice sounding small and scared. "The twins are missing. Last night, a group of men broke in and took them. I don't know where they are right now. I’m scared! You have to come over. Please."

Carmela felt her knees go weak. "What? My twins! No no no…I’ll be right over." 

She hung up the phone and ran to get dressed, her mind racing. What could have happened to her twins? And why or who would have done that?

Carmela rushed out of her room in a rush, after she had already put on a dress. At the dinner room, Max was seated at the sofa, looking at the Tv.
