Chapter 6
“Mother, there’s something I want to know,” I said, entering the kitchen.
“What is it, dear?” she asked.
“Can you tell me about the Amelia clan?” I asked.
“Sure, what do you want to know about them?” she responded, baking bread as we talked.
I was helping her bake the bread; my parents were bread sellers. Although we were hated, the hatred wasn’t enough to stop people from buying our bread because my mother was gifted in baking. Some even whispered that she added some charms and potions to make the bread taste better.
“Why are we the last two survivors of the Amelia clan?” I asked.
My mother took a deep breath, smiled, and started telling the story. “There was a deadly disease that ravaged the land. It wiped out many other clans, but our family managed to survive.”
“I see. So there might be other members of the Amelia clan still alive?” I wondered.
“I can’t tell, but we are the only ones on the record. There may be more outside the cit
