Chapter 68
I didn’t know what to respond, nothing seemed appropriate. Mika didn’t react like other werewolves in my presence, because we were the same. Of the same blood, and of the same rank. He was the only one I could have faced in such a battle. A born leader. I tried to rescue the meaning of his last sentence, at least.
“What do you mean?” I rebuked him, with a ferocious growl.
“That you can stay with your quiet life, with your children. You deserve it, after everything you’ve been through. We’ll take care of everything else.”
Once again I didn’t know what to answer. It wasn’t like he stayed to hear my answer either; Mikhail left the study before I could say anything. Things were clear. The deck had been cut and dealt; now, we had to return to the game with the cards we had been dealt.
