Chapter 1

The wind gently swayed the treetops, and the last rays of sunlight illuminated the land before dusk set in.

It would be a beautiful sight, and Ziad would love to see it from a hilltop. Of course, that's if it wasn't completely lost. Unable to even tell north from south.

Sighing, he sat down on a fallen, half-rotted log. Then he took a canteen of water from his belt, drinking a large gulp of water from it.

(It was the same every time!) Ziad cursed, taking another drink, before tying the canteen back to his belt.

How could he be so unlucky? He was clearly on the demon's trail, so how did he just get away?

Ziad shook his head in disappointment, though he thought that mission was going to be easy. Now as if it wasn't enough that he had lost his prey, he also didn't know how to get back to the village he had come from.

Bypassing the eye patch, present on his left eye he cursed for what seemed like the thousandth time.

Who said being a dragon was easy?

Of course, he was only half dragon, the other half of him was human. But, that didn't hide the fact that he had the blood of these mighty beasts running through his veins.

Beasts capable of crossing the sea, and covering great distances without getting lost. So why wasn't he able to even stand on solid ground?

But, Ziad wouldn't be hurt by something so small. And it wasn't like this had never happened before, either. Just use your keen sense of smell, and try to find something that wasn't a squirrel or a deer.

As for the demon… he could ask directions in the surrounding villages, one or the other should have useful information. Then it was enough to find the trail again, and follow it.

Now, what he needed was to find a river. So he had only to follow him, and sooner or later he would be back in civilization.

Standing up, Ziad looked around and started to take a random path. He was really lost, so under circumstances like this it didn't matter which way he went, logically either way was right.

As he walked, he felt the vegetation around him change. The trees, and even the land, seemed to have taken on a gloomy air.

Frowning, Ziad ceased his movements. If he wasn't mistaken, he had just entered the dark forest territory. Home to dark creatures, sorcerers and a bunch of other evil beings.

That was a really good surprise, there was a high chance the demon he was looking for had taken refuge there.

Diminishing his sense of existence, Ziad began to walk cautiously across the grounds. He had already heard stories, where sorcerers set traps in order to capture unsuspecting elves, and other creatures that came out of the protected forests.

Was it true? He did not know.

However, it was a fact that the two were extremely close to each other. Also, it was known that sorcerers made the dark forest their "sacred" place. Where they could perform rituals, and other things without interruption from others.

Thinking so, Ziad walked even more cautiously. Not that he was afraid, but a half dragon was just as attractive as a dragon.

And he didn't want to be caught by some slip-up. Probably dozens of barriers would be raised, and as he was young, and weaker than his kind, his power level would not be enough to break very powerful enchantments.

In fact, it didn't worry him. But rather the fact that he would need to communicate, and ask his mother for help. What for him would be the worst thing that could happen.

Even more so when your mother made three things clear: Only ask for my help if you're dying. Learn what you can, and improve your skills. And last but not least, find a cute mate and have a baby.

In view of that, and having to listen to his mother complain for the next decade about how careless he was to fall for such a cheap trick, Ziad would a thousand times rather be careful right now. He didn't want to be as scolded as his brother was!

As he advanced, the terrain became more and more uneven. Holes, loose stones and roots were more and more common, which made the journey much more difficult.

After three or four hours like this, Ziad was already getting tired. There was no sign of the demon he was hunting, and oddly enough he found two "traps" lying around.

Obviously, he didn't activate them, just uncover his left eye, and a blue eye with a vertical pupil was revealed.

Dragons in general are very good at seeing things invisible to the naked eye, it only took one look and Ziad could identify what purpose it was used for. In the end, it really was a trap, but it could only be activated if them came into contact with certain creatures, such as elves and fairies.

Of course, other creatures like himself could activate them. However, if a demon or other dark creature accidentally stepped on it, it wouldn't even budge.

As a precaution, Ziad thought it best to walk with his left eye uncovered, that way he wouldn't risk falling into one of these because he was distracted.

At one point, Ziad began to smell something strange. It was a soft, sweet scent, but it seemed to be mixed with the unmistakable scent of blood.

A good advantage of dragons was their extremely keen sense of smell. So in most cases they could identify almost anything by smell.

That scent really attracted Ziad, but he was reluctant to approach. What if it was a trap?

However, he seemed to being tempted and unconsciously began to approach.

Of course, there was a possibility that someone was seriously injured and in need of help. But who would be foolish enough to enter that place alone?

Well, apart from himself.

The closer he got, the more intense the scent became which made him frown. That would definitely attract some wild beasts, he needed to hurry!

Quickening his pace, Ziad passed over tangled vines and leapt over fallen logs. Not long after, he finally reached the source of the smell.

It was a person, had a ski figure and was lying on the ground. However, that was not what caught his attention, but the fact that the person was completely naked, and that his naked skin was completely marked by bruises of all sizes and shapes.

In addition to really horrible cuts.

Approaching the person, Ziad could hear the other party's light breathing, an indication that it was alive, but it probably wouldn't last much longer.

If he wanted to save him, era needed to do it now.

Biting his hand, Ziad turned the stranger over as carefully as he could, fearing he would make his wounds worse.

So he finally can give a good look at the person he mistakenly thought was a woman because of the long hair. But that now, he clearly showed himself to be a man, a pity that he couldn't make out much of his features, considering that his face was bruised and dirty.

But judging by the pointy ears, it was clearly an elf, or half-elf, if you take into account how they were a little shorter than usual.

And does not hide the fact, that the person must be really beautiful.

Of course, this wasn't the time to be rambling.

Then Ziad began to act, as carefully as he could, leaned the elf's body against his and forcing him to open his mouth. Before placing her bitten hand between his lips, and forcing him to drink he blood.

A dragon's blood, even though it couldn't regenerate limbs, could heal any illness or injury. Therefore, in the dark ages they were hunted and killed. So that its scales and blood could be extracted and used in elixirs and potions.

So over the centuries, dragons hid from mankind. Creating a haven in the middle of the ocean that only they could access. So over time, they were classified as an almost extinct breed, having only a few sightings per decade.

Obviously this wasn't true, they just got tired of being chased and killed, so they retreated to an exclusive haven. But they weren't entirely ignorant, some took on human form and blended in with the crowd.

In addition, young dragons were sent to the human world, in order to learn and also to find out how the current situation in the world is going.

But that aside, Ziad sighed in relief when he saw the elf's wounds slowly begin to heal. His pained expression also gradually relaxed.

Seeing this, Ziad couldn't help but stroke the other's cheek slowly, as a sign of comfort.

"Don't worry, I'm here. "
