Chapter 58
Rex walked slowly around in front of the fireplace, also with his arms crossed. I was sure that all eyes were following him, in fact, until Ivan snorted and spoke:
“It’s okay, Rex. Let it go,” he said, understanding. “You can tell you’ve been chewing on it all the way here.”
“OK. I want you to hand over control to me,” said the other.
I opened my eyes wide, impressed. That was quick and without anesthesia! For me it was like a bucket of cold water; I can’t imagine what Ivan himself must have felt when he heard that, but he certainly didn’t like it. He frowned slightly and took a deep breath instead of answering anything right away. Were we expecting something like that? The way I saw it, it was very possible. He looked too calm to be an “alpha” about to be overthrown.
“Repeat that,” Ivan challenged him, with a stern tone.
I don’t know how it sounded to others, but it seemed like a provocation to me.
