“Your Majesty?” the main envoy replies with innocent, wide eyes.

“You heard me. Where is my son? And where are you hiding Riley Brodcraz?” I demand.

“Your Majesty, I think you have the wrong idea,” the envoy says. “We’re not here about your son. We have no idea where he is. Why, I just heard about his kidnapping when we arrived. I’m sorry, Your Majesty, I can’t help you.”

The envoy leader isn’t even a very good liar, but he has the shield of diplomacy around him, so I decide to bide my time.

‘We could take him to the dungeon and rack him until he talks,’ Zeke suggests telepathically.

‘Don’t tempt me,’ I reply. I stand before the envoy, letting my eyes glow blood-red so that he knows I’m deadly serious. “If you know something, and I find out that you know something, your death will be slow and painful.”

“Your Majesty, I serve King Maximus Lupus of Rallegrad. Your threats could be considered an act of war,” the man sniffs
