Silver cuffs bite into my wrists and ankles, burning my flesh where they touch. The silver chains run to the wall where they are anchored into the stone. All I’m wearing is a small scrap of cloth over my most sensitive areas.

Riley comes for one of her visits. She’s visited four times now since we reached the castle, and I was thrown into the dungeon. She primly lifts her skirt above the grime of the dungeon floor and sashays over to me, grinning.

“Well, if it isn’t His Majesty.” She laughs. “Still pouting over your son? Not to worry. Maximus and I will have an heir worthy of your throne. If Gregory doesn’t pan out, that is.”

I don’t look at her. I don’t so much as breathe in her direction. I want her dead or gone… mostly both.

“Aww, is Rafey-Wafey too hurt? Well, how do you think it felt when you threw me over for some mutt?” she sneers.

I keep my head down, my jaw working uselessly. What is there to say now?
