Amber looked in the fire, Rome was putting more logs in the fire. Rome and Rebecca hadn’t talked to Amber after they came to know about Amber’s little suicidal attempts.
The fire hissed and popped as each log caught, sending warm orange sparks curling into the night sky. The scent of burning wood mingled with the cold, damp air, pressing against Amber’s senses like a reminder of the moment’s intensity. A faint wind brushed across her cheeks, chilling her skin despite the fire’s heat.
Rebecca had even refused to stand in Amber’s presence, she didn’t even come to check on Amber. Rome had cleaned Amber’s wounds that her father’s claws had given her but that doesn’t mean that he was happy with her. One look at his face and Amber had gulped, her throat felt dry. Rome was beyond angry. Beyond hurt. Which had told Amber to keep her mouth shut.
