And then she was gone, just through a door leading to the garden. Doron, the midwife, had a pup with her that I recognized positively as one of Cissy's twins. Hadn't Harad mentioned earlier that she had refused to hire a nanny? Or perhaps Doron is simply the friend whom she trusts solely with caring for her pups?

Frowning, I look in the direction where the two have disappeared.

Doron's behavior is very peculiar, why didn't she just walk over to greet me? Maybe I should ask Cissy to explain.

“Do you know the nanny?” Walter inquired next to me. “She was employed by the King and Queen to care for the Crown Prince. Xanne is occupied with her own work and this nanny has proved invaluable. The boy adores her.”

My jaws hang agape in complete astonishment as I gaze upon the man.

“Are you saying that the pup I just saw at Doron's is Xanne's? That is not possible! That's Cissy's son. And I am so certain of it that I would wager m
