Chapter 64. A Heartless Mate

After what seemed like an eternity, we let go of each other to refill our lungs.

We are surrounded by absolute quietness. Everyone is staring at us with interest, but Shiri and I only have eyes for each other. This is an unexpected turn of events for both of us.

My new mate isn't much older than Taylor. Goddess, why keep bothering me with these young mates?

I now scrutinize her more closely, searching for even the slightest hint of disillusionment. If she shares the belief that I am too old for her, what course should I take? But luckily she looks at me longingly and a sense of relief washes over me. At last, an affectionate mate who accepts rather than rebuffs me.

“Hi, I'm Shiri. I'm sorry that we meet under these unpleasant circumstances,” my mate explained cautiously.

“Don't worry, we'll come up with a solution," I assured her, although I have no idea how.
