Chapter 161. Seducing the Kingpin

“Listen, Lara. We don’t mess with the werewolves. Understood?” Carter growls, while Lara rolls her eyes in response.

“Lara, don't you think this seemed a little too easy? I mean, do you really believe Claire will just releasedsuch amount of money like that? No retaliation, nothing. No strings attached?” He asks, his tone grave and his expression stern. Doubt englfs Carter's thoughts like ivy on stone. He does not seem to be able to fathom Claire’s yielding so readily, like a fortress breached without a fight. It smells like a trap to him.

Before Lara could respond, the office portal swings wide, a quintet of armed sentinels striding forth, indifferent to the protests of the receptionist behind them.

"We're in search of Ms. Faux, the CEO," one of them declares, their words unwavering as they divulge the purpose of their visit.

Lara, still reeling from the sudden appearance of the police, clears her throat and responds, "I am she.
