What Liam found hardest to accept was that he hadn't been able to see Luke one last time. Although he had glanced at him through the glass of the ICU, that hardly counted as a real meeting.

The last time they were supposed to meet in person was thwarted by an unexpected incident, meaning their farewell at the prison gates had unknowingly become their final goodbye.

Thinking about how he had promised Luke that he would personally come to greet him upon his release, to drink and celebrate together, an indescribable sorrow welled up in Liam’s heart, making it hard for him even to breathe.

His mind was filled with memories of the time they spent together in prison, as vivid as if they had happened just yesterday.

Even though Liam had experienced many things since then, some even life-threatening, this loss left him utterly despondent.

So much so that, as Iron and Jacob helped him to a bench in the corridor, Liam didn’t even realize it.
