I curled up as close as I could to Daniel on the long drive back to the packhouse, leaning into the warmth of his side. His arm draped protectively over my shoulders, tucking me under the soft blanket he’d wrapped around us both, and I pressed my cheek against his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heartbeat beneath my ear. Though he’d offered to find me a spare shirt—either in the cabin or back in the truck—I’d shivered at the thought of wearing anything that belonged to Alpha. Even the scent of his collared shirt would have felt like a betrayal. I would have preferred traveling stark naked all the way back rather than slip into his clothing. Daniel had simply nodded in understanding, tightening his arm around me as the moonlit road unspooled under our tires.
