Chapter 34. Why Is He Like This?
June POV
As the elevator slides open, I see Mr. Grande stepping out from his private one. Our eyes meet.
Just great. The exact person I want to see.
“I just finished shredding the—” I begin, but of course, he cuts in.
“I have the internal review in a few minutes. I assume you prepared the file correctly? No typos?” he says, checking his watch instead of looking at me.
A storm brews in my stomach — frustration, humiliation, a flicker of resentment.
Oh, I’ve got the perfect damn presentation file for you.
“Yes, sir. I’ll just grab it from my desk, then we can head out,” I say, already falling into stride beside him down the corridor toward my desk and his office.
But then he suddenly stops, rubbing the back of his neck like something’s bothering him.
“On second thought, why don’t you get it and meet me at the conference room,” he says. And just like that, he turns and walks off — doesn’t even wait for a response.
