Kelly POV

I don’t know how long I’ve been sitting there. Everything around me feels like it’s still moving, people, sounds, even time itself, but I’m stuck in place like something inside me has locked up completely. My thoughts aren’t forming properly anymore; they’re just colliding, breaking apart, refusing to make sense of what I just heard.

Twins. I have another twin. Not Kate… Susan.

It doesn’t feel real, not even as I repeat it in my head. It feels like a mistake, like a word that doesn’t belong in my life. My gaze stays fixed on Susan, searching her face for any sign that she might take it back, that she might laugh and say it’s some kind of misunderstanding. But she doesn’t. She just sits there, tense, like she’s carrying something she should have said a long time ago.

After a moment, she hesitates, then slowly reaches into her bag.

My breath catches before I even see it fully.
