Scarlett’s POV

“Remind me where we were before I got distracted.” Cane flashed his dirty yellow teeth yet again. I closed my eyes briefly for a wave of nausea to pass. Pulling the barrier down to warn Jaxon about the spy had drained me. I hadn’t eaten for hours coupled with the couple of slaps and punches I had endured from Cane. I needed to preserve energy for my escape, after I uncovered more about Cane, Silas and the powerful warlock.

“Uh huh.” His face hardened when I made no move to talk. “Where is it?” he bellowed, kicking my shin when I just looked at him. The pain radiated from the point of contact, numbing my leg up to my knee. Deciding to give him what he wanted I cried out, begging him to stop.
