Book 1: All Hopes Dashed

Zephyrus’s POV

I cautiously inched towards the closed door and a sense of dread clutched at my heart. The clawing sounds from inside became clearer with every step I took toward it. Now I was sure someone was trapped inside.

“Be careful, Zephyrus!” Lena’s panic-stricken voice echoed from the entrance.

“I’m fine!” I comforted her when a growl erupted from the other side of the closed door. So, it was an animal trapped inside. I didn’t fear anyone. The animal trapped inside couldn’t be more ferocious than I was!

I kicked open the door and waited for it to attack me. The stench inside the room was suffocating me, yet I had to check this out. When nothing emerged from the room, I went inside to check. A whimper from the corner of the room made me search for the animal. The room was in a state of mess, but I could clearly see an enormous cage behind a broken partition in the corner.
