Danica’s POV
Ever since the argument with my father, stepmother and Joey, Father has been careful enough to make me feel at home and comfortable. He wouldn’t tolerate any foul talk about me and even though it did nothing to soothe the hollow, empty feeling I’ve always had about my own family, it still felt good to see the bitter look on Joey’s face that she didn’t bother to hide unlike her mother.
I finally got to join the family meal for the first time in many years but at this moment, I couldn’t keep anything down.
I just killed all the time by picking on the food in front of me until I decided I’ve had enough of the suffocating silence.
Maybe I got used to the usual rants and insults, but right now, the void of it all just made me feel even more pathetic because I knew deep down that it wasn’t real.
