Chapter 189. The Truth Behind the Voices (1)
Moses was sitting in an armchair, tears flowing like a river. He didn't stop, he didn't try to hold them back and he didn't answer anyone. He was inconsolable. He stared into nothingness, and everyone around him was saddened by what had happened to Liane, but also by seeing Moses weakened like that. He only looked up when Thomás approached.
"Why is this happening to Liane? What did I do wrong? Haven't I protected you enough? Tell me, did I ignore you? Did I neglect you?" Moses asked without changing the look on his face, but with a bitter voice.
Thomás knelt in front of him and took his hands.
"It's not your fault. You've always done the right thing, not just with her, but with all of us. At no time did you abandon her. It's just that there are issues that, when we become adults, there's no longer any way to protect ourselves, no way to stop... We have to face them alone. We have to face them alone."
